Doctor of Physical Therapy Faculty

Briar Cliff University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track core faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program.

Effectively manages and teaches assigned courses:

  • Deliver current content expertise for physical therapy related courses in both lecture and lab formats to professional Doctor of Physical Therapy students, with possible option of instructor at undergraduate level
  • Maintain class and lab environment conducive to learning by developing creative, challenging, and evidence-based learning opportunities
  • Monitor student progress; gives feedback and advisement as necessary; facilitates student participation in learning activities

 

 

Advisement:

  • Advise entry-level DPT students on academic, co-curricular, professional and/or personal issues and makes a referral when appropriate
  • Mentor entry-level DPT students on student scholarly projects
  • Mentor entry-level DPT students in integrated clinical experiences, including the pro-bono clinic

 

 

Scholarship:

  • Establish and implement a scholarship agenda as required by CAPTE standards
  • Participate in activities that enhance scholarship and professional development

 

 

Service:

  • Participate in University activities, curriculum planning, and functions to support development and growth of the institution
  • Serve on University and Program committees as assigned
  • Serve as University liaison in community and/or professional activities
  • Participate in professional organizations, such as American Physical Therapy Association via section or chapter involvement

 

 

Policy and Procedures:

  • Support and exemplify the University’s mission and values
  • Uphold and enforce student and faculty handbook policies, as well as University policies and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Expertise and currency in physical therapy
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Accountable for actions and outcomes, as well as follows through on commitments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional role model and willingness to enforce the University’s mission and values
  • Able to provide a nurturing, respectful learning environment with a focus on clinical excellence
  • Responsive to adult learner needs
  • Able to work in a team environment, respectful of interdisciplinary activities
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional, clinical experience in physical therapy
  • Must be licensed or eligible for physical therapy license in Iowa

 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Specialty certification preferred
  • Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD) preferred
  • Residency and/or fellowship preferred
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in scholarly activity preferred

Salary and rank commensurate with academic experience and credentials
