Job Description:


The Upward Bound Program at Wittenberg University is recruiting for an Assistant Director to join our team. The Assistant Director will work with the Upward Bound staff in carrying out the essential operations of the program.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Plan and coordinate the cultural and recreational program during the summer and academic year.
  • Work with the Director to establish program policies.
  • Write portions of the proposal and annual reports as they relate to student needs assessment.
  • Coordinate alumni affairs which includes keeping updates and current files on former students.
  • Represent the program as it pertains to relations with a variety of social agencies on behalf of students and their families.
  • Supervise the maintenance of records.
  • Review computerized rosters and student records & profiles.
  • Provide needs assessments for students upon entrance into the program.
  • Administer student testing, including the selection and development of tests. Schedule, administer and grade tests. Disseminate information to appropriate personnel.
  • Make regular home visits to meet with Upward Bound students and their parents.
  • Consult with the Academic and Career Education Coordinator(s) to provide information and insight to the College Placement Program.
  • Work closely with reading and writing instructors to insure that students are receiving remediation in areas needed.
  • Serve as liaison between program and secondary schools.
  • Provide information for both program and school personnel as it pertains to Upward Bound students
  • Conduct exit interviews on project students who prematurely leave the program.
  • Design program newsletters and other correspondence.
  • Coordinate monthly cultural activities and fund-raising efforts.
  • Coordinate with and advise the Parent Advising Board.
  • Carry out the responsibilities of the Director in his/her absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


A Bachelor's degree in a related field required is required, master's degree preferred. We are seeking applicants with 1-3 years of related work experience.


Additionally, the Assistant Director should:


  • Be knowledgeable of various academic and psychological tests and of the federal rules and regulations governing Upward Bound students.
  • Have an educational experience, preferably in federally TRIO funded programs and with target populations.
  • Have sensitivity to the type of student recruited to Upward Bound.
  • Have the ability to work at least one evening/night per week supervising the tutorial lab.
  • Have the willingness and ability to teach as needed.
