Job Description Summary

As a member of the Business Intelligence team, this position is responsible for gathering requirements and designing and developing BI solutions that support the University’s BI and analytics initiatives, providing end user and campus report writing support and training, and providing administrative support for the Enterprise BI tools.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with business partners to plan and implement enhancements to the existing BI infrastructure and the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in data warehousing and BI solution design, development and implementation.
  • Designs, develops and maintains data models, Cognos and Power BI metadata models, ETL and other reporting infrastructure components for the Enterprise Data Warehouse and other reporting environments.
  • Creates, enhances, and performance tunes reports to support BI / EDW administration.
  • Responsible for the administration, maintenance, operational support, configuration management, and manages security for Enterprise BI tools. 
  • Serves as subject matter expert in BI tools working on problems of diverse scope and complexity.
  • Creates, enhances, and performance tunes reports. Provides training and support to campus reporting community. 
  • Works on problems of diverse scope and complexity.
  • Accountable for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding the university or its students, faculty, or staff. Accessing or disclosing such information or data must be deemed necessary for the performance of one’s job responsibilities and must be authorized by the employee’s supervisor.
  • Responsible for following the defined SDLC, ensuring solution development adheres to the process controls. Availability to work after hours and/or weekends and on-call, as specified by supervisor.

Required skills and competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Strong understanding of BI best practices.
  • Strong experience in business analysis, systems analysis, and data analysis in transactional and data warehousing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with data warehousing and Business Intelligence tools. Strong experience with Oracle and Linux.
  • Strong experience working with integration tools (preferably SnapLogic).
  • Strong report writing experience using BI tools (preferably with Cognos. Workday, and Power BI)
  • Experience with Cognos 10+ administration and support.
  • Knowledge of superior customer service standards and practices. 
  • Ability to work independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.  Receives no instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments.

Desired skills and competencies:

  • Experience in Higher Education with data and business processes strongly preferred.
  • Ellucian/SunGard Higher Education Banner experience preferred.
  • Workday HCM, Finance, Payroll, or Budget experience a plus.
