ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT FOR EQUITY AND INCLUSION - CLEVELAND STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE -  The Assistant to the President for Equity & Inclusion will have primary responsibility for supporting and advancing a campus culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural humility at Cleveland State. This position will lead the college community in the design and implementation of an equity plan that will guide campus-wide decisions, practices and policies.

  • Advise the President and campus constituents on institutional matters relating to diversity, inclusion and educational equity.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of an equity plan which will include short and long-term goals, objectives and strategies for campus-wide diversity, equity and inclusion and ensure alignment with the college’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals, departments and programs in identifying policies, practices and other factors that result in inequitable outcomes and explore and implement evidence-based practices and interventions which lead to equitable outcomes
  • Re-establish and provide leadership for the Equity & Inclusion Committee
  • Collaborate with the Academic Affairs and Student Services offices and other appropriate departments to support the infusion of culturally relevant pedagogy and practices into the college curricula and programs. 
  • Partner with the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness to integrate disaggregated data and an equity mindset into all research, planning implementation and assessment processes, including annual campus climate surveys, and development and tracking of success indicators
  • Investigate and make recommendations related to the resolution of sexual harassment, discrimination, and grievances filed by employees and/or applicants for employment and assists with student complaints  
  • Maintains a monitoring system to assure compliance with applicable Federal and State legislation and regulations
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the various grievance procedures
  • Consult with TBR General Counsel relative to laws, regulations, policies and guidelines.
  • Serve as the Title IX, Title VI Officer for the College.
  • Provide guidance and compliance in all matters relating Title IX and Title IV with related local, state/TBR, and federal laws and guidelines 
  • Consult with TBR General Counsel relative to laws and regulations in complaints and alleged violations
  • Coordinate and monitor all activities necessary for compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
  • Provide Title IX and Title VI training for employees and students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Master’s degree in higher education leadership, public administration, human resources or a related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred
  • Five years of full-time professional experience in higher education with preference for community college work.  Prefer at least two years of experience as a department chair or director or above.
  • Possess strong organizational, verbal/written communication skills.
  • Prefer a strong knowledge of critical issues involving diversity and inclusion.

Cleveland State Community College is an accredited public comprehensive community college committed to quality education and open access. The college operates within the governance of the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Approximately 3,500 credit students and 1,500 non-credit students enroll in Cleveland State Community College in a typical fall semester. The credit student population is split about evenly in the choice of transfer or career-technical programs. The average age of all students is 28 years. All persons are welcome at Cleveland State and the student population is non-racially identifiable. There are over 200 employees at the college including more than 70 full-time faculty members.

The 105-acre campus has 10 major buildings housing modern classrooms, laboratories, and student activity centers. Additional features include an excellent library, a multi-media center of emphasis, computer laboratories, a 400-seat theatre, a 3,000-seat gymnasium, athletic fields and tennis courts, a large reflector telescope, and a satellite downlink receiver which enables the college to serve as a site for many teleconferences. Cleveland State offers classes throughout the service area which includes Bradley, Meigs, McMinn, Monroe, and Polk Counties. The college has offices and classrooms in Athens and Vonore.

Situated in the scenic corridor of hills and valleys of Southeast Tennessee, Cleveland State presents an attractive atmosphere in which to enjoy varied facets of an educational experience. The community offers an abundance of service facilities and recreational opportunities. The college is located between Exits 25 and 27 on Interstate 75, 30 miles northeast of Chattanooga.
