The University is seeking an individual capable of teaching across athletic training, health, and wellness, and exercise science and fitness program areas.

Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) is a private institution founded in 1920 by the Sisters of Charity emphasizing values, integrity, and social responsibility. The Department of Athletic Training offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness, a minor in Exercise Science and Fitness, and the Master of Athletic Training degree with a 3+2 track with the BS degree as well as a traditional 2-year graduate degree track. We are dedicated to providing holistic, individual attention to students as they develop personal and professional skills.

Located in Cincinnati, Ohio on the banks of the Ohio River, MSJ offers both urban and rural opportunities for recreation, living, and community engagement. The Greater Cincinnati region has a national and international reputation for quality healthcare, the arts, and music, and provides opportunities for leadership, professional practice, and research for health care faculty.

The general responsibilities of all teaching faculty are described in the Mount St Joseph University EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK which is available through MyMount.

The specific responsibilities of all teaching faculty include:

Athletic Training and Health and Wellness Programs:

1. Supports the Mission of the University, School of Health Sciences, and the Mission, Philosophy and Strategic Plan of the Department of Athletic Training.

2. Participates in regular, special and standing committees and other activities of the Department.

3. Contributes to the development, evaluation, and revision of the curriculum

4. Participates in identifying and ordering appropriate library and other media materials pertinent to the curriculum

5. Contributes to the development and revision of departmental and student policies in relation to administration, admission, retention, evaluation, progression, graduation, and licensure

6. Assists in the development and evaluation of the Program’s Strategic Plan and the budget and in planning and decision making regarding major expenditures

7. Acts in accord with the Program’s professional and ethical standards

8. Participates in groups designed to involve community agencies in program planning and evaluation

9. Accepts leadership responsibilities within the Program

10. Participates in the recruitment of qualified faculty and students

11. Supervises the activities of adjunct lab instructors, if utilized

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

1. Selects, plans, organizes and implements learning experiences in assigned courses which assist

students to meet course and program outcomes

2. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the subject matter

3. Demonstrates an ability to integrate related content areas

4. Uses creativity in developing an interactive learning environment

5. Evaluates students based on course outcomes identifies strengths and areas needing improvement and facilitates the development of strategies for improvement and mastery of subject area

ACADEMIC ADVISING

1. Interprets University, School, and Program policies for students

2. Facilitates clarification and/or validation of course requirements, Program, University, and Accrediting policies when communicating with students

3. Posts regularly scheduled times for student conferences and advising sessions

4. Maintains professional boundaries and sets limits with students

5. Makes appropriate referrals and assists students to seek professional counseling and remedial opportunities when necessary

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

1. Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in healthcare, AT, Health and Wellness, and disciplinary education and accreditation.

2. Demonstrates creativity in learning strategies, assessment, and clinical practice

3. Actively participates in professional organizations and community activities

4. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth

5. Actively participates in scholarly activity as required by the university and accrediting agencies.

6. Participates in scholarly and citizenship activities in the Program, School, and University, through professional organizations and/or the community

7. Collaborates with colleagues in the department and in other disciplines

Qualifications The ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Advanced degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Psychology, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or Public Health. (Terminal degree required for assistant professor or higher).

  • A minimum of two years of clinical or professional experience.

  • Credentialing through nationally recognized certifications (ACSM, BOC, NASM, NBC-HWC, NBPHE, NCHEC, NSCA, and/or NWI).

  • Eligibility for OH state licensure in a healthcare discipline (preferred)

  • Teaching experience in athletic training, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, health promotion, health and sociology, and kinesiology (preferred).

  • Experience working with clients/patients in the community, hospital, employee wellness, and/or school settings (preferred).

  • Experience with interprofessional practice and team-based care (preferred).

  • Familiarity with CAATE accreditation (preferred).

  • A demonstrated ability and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
