JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: Development Officer – Reunion Campaigns

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Development Officer – Reunion Campaigns is responsible for securing gifts from alumni to achieve milestone reunion campaign overall, project, legacy, and participation goals. S/he manages a portfolio of Citadel alumni reunion classes, and works closely with staff and

alumni leaders to recruit, train and manage volunteer committees. The Development Officer is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive reunion campaign strategy and individual prospect strategies. S/he travels regularly over the course of the year to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward top donor prospects and volunteers.

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Legacy, Reunion and Annual Giving

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Fundraising
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a range of gifts, including campaign gifts, major gifts, and legacy gifts, to attain milestone reunion campaign goals
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned prospects and establish ongoing relationships with prospects through face‐to‐face visits (minimum of 144 / year), phone calls, and meaningful donor encounters
  • Collaborate with The Citadel Foundation team, Citadel campus partners, and reunion volunteers to develop individual solicitation strategies for top donor prospects and volunteers

  • Campaign Volunteer Management
  • Facilitate a 3‐year class reunion campaign for a minimum of 3 milestone (10th, 25th,40th, 50th) reunion classes
  • Develop a comprehensive reunion campaign strategy including goal setting, gift pyramid development and lead solicitor planning in order to meet ambitious reunion campaign goals
  • Recruit, train and manage a minimum of 100 reunion volunteers
  • Generate monthly campaign reports for reunion volunteers to track progress towards campaign goals
  • Assist reunion volunteers with crafting and revising communications, direct mail and email solicitations to update class on reunion campaign goals, project and progress
  • Conduct regular communication with reunion volunteers through in‐person meetings, conference calls, and email

  • Lead/Assist one of the CRC program initiatives: Volunteers’ Conference, Giving Day,
  • End of Year Fundraising Appeal, Volunteer Management System, External Marketing
  • & Outreach, Homecoming recognition, Volunteer Workshops
  • Coordinate with The Citadel Foundation team, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation,
  • Citadel Alumni Association, and Citadel campus partners, as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least two (2) years of experience in related development/fundraising
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with computer‐based software (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet
  • applications)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle the needs of a fast‐paced work
  • environment and special needs of donors
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to travel
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with volunteer management
  • Two (2) years’ work experience in higher education philanthropy
  • Specific experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge
  • Additional experience or education in fundraising
  • Familiarity with and affinity for The Citadel and its mission, including its core values
