General Summary To perform professional carpentry work at the journeyman level.
Required Qualifications 1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Certificate of completion of apprenticeship as a Carpenter under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program
Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Carpenter, with a minimum of four (4) years of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Carpenters, Lathers, Millwrights, Piledrivers, Millworkers, Floor Layers and any other classifications encompassed within the scope of work included in these trade categories.
3. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
Hiring Rate/Range $33.04/hour
Work Hours Varied depending on training and shift availability; 2nd shift hours may be required.

Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits, including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
Extra Help employees are paid prevailing rate per the trade. They may work full-time hours (37.5 per week) throughout their employment as Extra Help, however they are not to exceed 900 hours during each Extra Help appointment.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Ability to climb to heights of 40' or more and/or depths (trenches, hoistways, etc) Ability to lift 70 lbs.
2. Ability to climb a minimum of 2 flights of stairs and/or 300 feet
3. Ability to carry 8' of drywall unassisted and 12' of drywall with assistance
4. Ability to lift weights of 60 lbs. overhead for short periods of time
5. Ability to kneel, crouch, bend at waist for extended periods of time.
