Associate Director, Teaching for Learning Center

Job description

The University of Missouri invites nominations and applications for the Associate Director of its newly established Teaching for Learning Center. The Associate Director will manage a portfolio of programs to realize the vision and goals of the new Center. The successful candidate will build relationships with the campus community, serve as a collaborative leader of programs designed to support faculty success by adopting and implementing evidence-based teaching practices at the institution, and assist the Director and Teaching for Learning team to achieve the mission of the Center.

Reporting to the Director of the Teaching for Learning Center, the Associate Director will share in responsibility for the daily operations of the Center, including data-driven planning, implementation, and assessment of programs and events; supervision of staff; and grant-writing. The successful candidate will deliver programs that promote a scholarly approach to teaching excellence that are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Activities include:

  • assisting with the management of the Center’s programs, sessions, and working groups
  • providing faculty development opportunities for faculty and all instructors o providing career-specific programming for both new and experienced faculty o playing a key role with new faculty and graduate instructor orientations
  • supporting peer mentoring and peer coaching activities
  • supporting learning communities/communities of practice related to teaching and learning
  • managing aspects of our institutional membership with the CIRTL network
  • advising on research projects in the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • engaging students as partners in teaching for learning
  • creating data visualizations for the teaching and learning ecosystem at MU
  • assessing the Teaching for Learning Center for continuous quality improvement

The Associate Director will work collaboratively with the T4LC’s Advisory Board and other campus units also providing extensive teaching and curricular support (e.g., MU Libraries; Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity; Graduate School; Assessment Resource Center; Office of Service Learning; Campus Writing Program; Educational Technologies at Missouri; Academic Support Center).

The successful candidate for this position will have experience in a university setting, a doctorate, teaching experience at the college or university level, an understanding of student and adult learning, and noteworthy experience in helping to create positive improvements in teaching in a research university setting. Outstanding communication skills and a demonstrated collaborative leadership style are essential. The successful candidate will have the necessary record to be considered as a tenured/tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty member in a Mizzou academic unit. This position is an administrative position, and is not affiliated with an academic unit.
In addition to the requirements noted above, the successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Faculty Education/Development
  • Record of contribution to inclusion, diversity, and equity
  • Record of teaching excellence in a university setting
  • Experience in writing successful grant proposals
  • Experience in program development, data analysis, and assessment
  • Excellent presentation, writing, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Evidence of scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Familiarity with the Association of American Universities (AAU) and its metrics
  • Experience working in a post-secondary teaching center or equivalent
  • Experience in a variety of course delivery methods About MU and the Surrounding Community: MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River, and the largest of the four institutions in the University of Missouri System.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Appointment: Full-time, 12-month position, beginning June 2019.
