Director of Payroll

Description:
The Director of Payroll is a strategic and tactical leader that has responsibility for oversight and management of the payroll cycle. This role manages the payroll function responsible for paying all faculty, staff and students in multiple states; primarily Massachusetts and California. The role is responsible for the management of payroll administration on a daily basis, ensuring on time and accurate pay, and all processes are executed timely and in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and IRS regulations. The position is also responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring related policies and procedures that impact payroll. The Director of Payroll serves as a liaison between third party vendors, Human Resources, departments and staff across the organization. The position plays an active role in process improvement initiatives, including but not limited to payroll system implementations and upgrades.

Campus Location:

Required Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- 8-10 years related work experience required.
- Experience managing a multi-state payroll department
- In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing
- Managerial/supervisory experience. Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance
- knowledge of applicable local, state and federal rules and laws
- proficiency in relevant payroll and accounting software, including ADP.
- Previous experience with multiple payroll vendors and leading system implementations and upgrades is necessary.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting and the general ledger.
- Demonstrated experience developing and complying with internal controls.
- Proficiency in research, reporting and analytics. Demonstrated ability to effectively translate plans into tangible and achievable goals.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents and perform analysis
- Must be a team player
- Must be highly organized
- Prior system conversion experience, a plus
- Ability to interpret Union Contracts, a plus Key Competencies

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
- CPP designation - Experience with Workday - Knowledge and experience with non-resident alien tax and treaties
