SUMMARY:

The Director of Talent and Organizational Development is responsible for developing and managing talent development programs to create a thriving and inclusive environment for all employees. The Director develops and implements procedures, guidelines, processes and tools to support talent development initiatives. The Director works closely with university leaders to identify learning needs and to create and deliver content and measure the effectiveness of programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learning and Development

  • Oversee the assessment of training needs and requirements as a strategic partner to functional department heads and HR business partners.
  • Design a strategic leadership and professional development plan to meet the strategic goals of the university to create a thriving community.
  • Design and deliver diversity and inclusion, leadership and professional development programming aligned with the strategic professional development plan, including
  • Communicate and market learning and development programs in ways that generate excitement for continuous learning and improvement
  • Create and maintain a consistent and compelling onboarding program, orienting new employees to the values and culture of UR
  • Working closely with HR and university leaders, develop management and supervisor training programs

Organizational Consulting

  • Facilitate strategic planning sessions for departments and divisions
  • Provide team and individual coaching services
  • Design effective solutions to help teams work effectively together
  • Manage process and develop responses to employee engagement surveys

Performance Management

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the performance management process, including maintaining forms, drafting instructions and advising offices and practices on process.
  • Work closely with AVP, HR and University leaders to asses and develop appropriate performance management practices for a diverse workforce.
  • Design development plans in consultation with division leaders and HR business partners, in support of division goals.

Department Leadership

  • Provide strong leadership, guidance, feedback and development for direct reports
  • Participate collaboratively with the HR leadership team to develop university wide policies and procedures
  • Develop and monitor learning and development budget within the overall Human Resource budget.
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential partners across campus

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult training & development, organizational development and diversity practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of performance improvement consultation, including interventions, processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of change management and communications strategy and plans.
  • Thorough knowledge of organization behavior, group dynamics, and individual psychology.
  • Thorough knowledge of leading-edge OD practices by application in work, where appropriate
  • Demonstrated skill in coaching leaders/managers.
  • Skill in oral and written communication sufficient to clearly convey and receive information and ideas.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing workload.
  • Demonstrated skill in the leadership and development of staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree required. Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or Psychology strongly preferred.
  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience leading an OD organization, preferably in a higher education setting, including: a minimum of 5 years of training, talent management, organizational development and diversity experience; and 5 years of supervisory/management experience.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
