South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly qualified individual for the position of Associate Dean of Nursing. This position is responsible for all nursing program operations including fiscal, personnel, and student management as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program outcomes and meeting accreditation and state nursing commission standards for the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Nursing Assistant programs.

The Associate Dean of Nursing will provide program leadership in support the college's mission, vision, core themes, and strategic plan, creating and maintaining an environment that is collegial and conducive to teaching, learning, professional growth, and collaboration.

This position will:

  • Administer the program budget to ensure adequate program resources, accurate accounting, and fiscal responsibility to the college.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments and course schedules of nursing program courses and supervise and evaluate the work of full-time and adjunct faculty teaching in those courses and in accordance with the faculty negotiated contract.
  • Coordinate the hiring, supervise the work, and conduct the annual evaluations of classified and part-time hourly staff direct reports.
  • Maintain knowledge of Washington State and national standards for nursing education programs and provide leadership to ensure evidence of the college meeting these.
  • Coordinate the review and assessment of program and student learning outcomes and participate in college-wide assessment activities.
  • Coordinate all program accreditation activities and write all required reports and self-studies.
  • Coordinate faculty involvement in the process of developing and reviewing curriculum to ensure integrity, rigor, and currency as well as to satisfy the expectations of the college's Instructional Council and Washington State and national standards for nursing education programs.
  • Oversee processes for responding to and addressing program-related complaints and grievances in accordance program policies and college grievance policies.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of the Natural and Applied Science Division to support the coordination of divisional and college curriculum and resources.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of the Natural and Applied Science Division to engage in personnel recruitment activities, coordinate screening and hiring processes, and oversee processes for faculty development and performance review, all in accordance with College policies and state requirements for professional-technical teaching personnel.
  • Collaborate and work closely with enrollment services to coordinate recruitment, advising, and admission processes for the nursing program.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Dean of the Natural and Applied Science Division to ensure that public information regarding the nursing program is accurate, clear, consistent, accessible, and coordinated with other healthcare programs.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Nursing Program Advisory Committee as well as other stakeholders to provide opportunities for communities of interest to have input into program processes and decision-making.
  • Act as liaison between the nursing program and acute care, long-term care, and other community health care providers and develop and maintain written agreements with cooperating agencies and clinical sites
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  • Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university
  • An unencumbered Washington State RN license
  • Five years' work experience as a registered nurse including two years of experience in nursing education
  • Successful candidate must complete and maintain requirements for Professional Technical Program Administrator Certification per Washington Administrative Code 131-16-091 to 092
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of best practices in teaching, assessment, and student engagement including experience with online learning, simulation training, clinical supervision, and applied clinical assessment and evaluation in laboratory and clinical settings
  • Experience in curriculum development, systematic program evaluation, and use of data to enhance and improve teaching and learning, especially in the context of state and national standards for nursing education programs
  • Current knowledge of both nursing education at the associate degree level and the articulation between that and bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) programs
  • Experience in a leadership role in an ADN program
  • Demonstrated success in effectively managing and communicating the results of decision-making processes including leading committees
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and staff representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities; and the ability to foster a climate in which such diversity is understood and valued
  • Experience in advising of students
  • Experience in the use of software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel or other computerized spreadsheet applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
