    The Resident Advisor develops a sense of community among residents as members of a floor/suite, residents of a hall, and active participants in the residence life system. The advisor serves as a positive role model to residents and peer staff members. The resident advisor enforces the rules and policies of Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services and the University and acts as a liaison between residents and the McNair Scholars Program and the University administration.

    The Resident Advisor position is critical for 24 hours supervision during the McNair Summer Research Institute for eight weeks - May 28, 2019 through July 19, 2019.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop a sense of community and respectful environment for student living in the residential community.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with residents by being available and approachable in the residential community.Be knowledgeable about resources on campus and refer students appropriately.Confront and document College and Housing policy violations in the residential community.Respond to emergency and critical incidents involving residents related to health, safety, and security issues.Provide overnight on-duty coverage in the residential community, including rounds (2- 3 rounds during the evening) and being available and visible in the community to residents.Maintain the student living conditions by educating and encouraging students to respect the physical unit (neatness and safety), to maintaining a reasonable noise level, and to respect the rights of other students.Communicate regularly with the Residence Director and McNair Scholars Program staff.

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

      Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a STEM field, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5.Currently enrolled in the FVSU Graduate School and Extended Studies or has applied to a graduate schoolKnowledge of the barriers disadvantaged and underrepresented students must overcome.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and Proficient with GRE level verbal and math skills.Submit to and pass a background investigation

    Preferred:

      Two (2) years of tutoring experience

    Working conditions

    • Travel and overnight trips are required
    • Walking on college campuses, at museums and other cultural attractions is required
    • The residence hall should be a climate controlled environment

    Physical requirements

    The position requires walking, standing, and sitting (when traveling) for long periods of time
