American University of Central AsiaVice President for Academic Affairs The American University of Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (AUCA) seeks a Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) is the chief academic officer of AUCA. Reporting to the President, the VPAA works in close collaboration with the with faculty, staff, and members of research units and centers on all matters pertaining to academic affairs at AUCA, including accreditation, curriculum development, faculty hiring, retention, training, and promotion, academic policies, and academic services. The VPAA will assist the President in work with the Board of Trustees and will report both to the President and to the Board’s Committee on Academic Policy, Standards & Accreditation. S/he will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer on the development of academic budgets

A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to and familiarity with liberal arts and sciences education and the principles of student-centered learning; a strong record of teaching and research; an excellent command of the English and Russian languages suitable for AUCA’s academic context; a commitment to the mission of AUCA; and a reasonable familiarity with the educational environment of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia, or a willingness to learn about it. A successful candidate should demonstrate skill and experience (preferably three to five years) in academic governance and administration (department chair or dean level would be suitable), planning, budget management, and effective use of educational technologies. AUCA seeks an experienced, forward-thinking academic leader with an earned doctorate (Ph. D or its equivalent) who has a record of excellence in scholarship and teaching and who inspires the faculty, staff, and student body and will command their respect. The candidate will be committed to student success and growth, and demonstrate an ability to advance the mission and values of AUCA. The new VPAA should be available to assume office as early as September 2019. Salary commensurate with experience. Preference will be given to candidates who apply by May 15.
