Instructor or Assistant Professor in Consumer Sciences

The Department of Consumer Sciences in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama is seeking an Instructor or Assistant Professor to collaborate with existing faculty to expand undergraduate and graduate programs in one or both of the following areas: family financial planning and counseling; digital consumer engagement.

The successful candidate will teach courses on campus and online; serve on department, college, and university committees; mentor students; seek resources to support instruction; and cultivate relationships with potential employers and industry partners. The position is a non-tenure earning renewable three year contract. It is renewable each year based on performance, need, and funding availability.

Prior to employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment background investigation. If hired, an official transcript of candidate’s most recent advanced degree will be required. The start date is August 16, 2019, or as negotiated.

The department offers a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in consumer affairs and family financial planning and counseling. Our master’s degree includes concentrations in consumer economics and family financial planning and counseling. These concentrations are currently being pursued by approximately 250 undergraduate students and 75 graduate students.
