Job Description:


Description of Department: The Dean of Students Office provides leadership to enhance the student experience by providing services that promote the personal development, health and wellbeing, and academic success of all students at SUNY Oswego. The Dean of Students Office responds to the needs of students encountering personal or academic problems and works with all campus units to maintain a positive learning environment. The Dean of Students Office oversees the administrative processes in Campus Life, Student Conduct, and the Behavioral Intervention Team.


The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Associate Dean of Students.

Description of Responsibilities:


The Associate Dean of Students will:


  • Serve as chief assistant to the Dean of Students; does related work as required.
  • Support the Student Conduct unit-wide assessment and evaluation including data collection, data management, dissemination, and consultation. Facilitate the use of assessment findings for continuous improvement.
  • Lead efforts in Student Conduct to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as they relate to Clery Act, FERPA and related state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Under the general direction of the Dean of Students, develop strategic plans, oversee the implementation, and ensure continued assessment of strategic objectives for the unit.
  • Oversee the process of Leaves of Absences for students related to the college withdrawal process.
  • Work with the Director of Student Conduct on coordinating the development, interpretation, and enforcement of the College's rules and regulations pertaining to student conduct process.
  • Oversee College compliance with the National Drug Free Schools Act.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and departments to provide additional learning opportunities and partnerships that enhance the student experience.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and network with colleagues.
  • Serve and participate on College committees as assigned or designated.
  • Serve as conduct hearing officer as Dean's designee or Code Administrator as needed.
  • Participate in Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division activities and professional development opportunities.

The Associate Dean of Students reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.


In addition, the Associate Dean of Students will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.



Requirements:


Required Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in student development, counseling, higher education or related area at time of application
  • Experience working with a diverse student body and commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead staff
  • Familiarity with student conduct process and policy development as related
  • Excellent writing, oral presentation skills, and organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA and Clery Act compliance

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Doctorate degree in higher education
  • Progressive experience in Student Affairs
