Requirements

The Assistant/Associate Director is an integral member of the Law Center's Office of Graduate Careers (OGC) team, and exists to provide career-related and externship counseling to over 600+ U.S.- and foreign-trained LL.M. students and alumni. Our goal in the Office of Graduate Careers is to help our students and alumni to be proactive, organized and diligent in their search for a new position in a competitive job market.

The Assistant/Associate Director's duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide assistance to the Assistant Dean of OGC in developing programs for the LL.M. student population.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and career development and externship assistance to both U.S.-and foreign-trained LL.M. students and alumni on job search strategies, including: self-assessment, networking, and skills development, reviewing cover letters, resumes and other business correspondence, as well as conducting mock interviews.
  • Research and organize materials on employment opportunities for the Ll.M. students and develop new on-line and print resources to assist students in utilizing these sources in their job searches.
  • Assist the career and professional development team with workshops, job fairs, interview programs, new initiatives and any career-related activities for the Ll.M. population.
  • Conduct outreach, develop and implement marketing initiatives to promote LL.M. students to potential employers, and assist the Graduate Careers team in developing and managing job search programs and on-campus interviews.
  • Responsible for developing job, internship and externship opportunities for LL.M. students.
  • Increase awareness among potential domestic and international employers about the Law Center's Graduate Programs and the benefits of hiring our Ll.M. students, and accordingly, develop and increase interview, job and internship opportunities for this population.
  • Manage all aspects of the annual Taxation Interview Program, as well as any other career fairs or on-campus interviews organized for LL.M. candidates.

Qualifications
  • Position requires a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Experience practicing law for at least one year is required.
  • Requires knowledge of and interest in law school administration.
  • Demonstrated track record in developing and implementing new initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record in administering programs.
  • Demonstrated track record in conducting successful marketing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to make presentations and communicate with students on a one-on-one and group basis, helping them identify their professional and personal strengths, skills and abilities needed for a successful job search.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse student body and faculty.
  • Team approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of market practices within the legal employment market.
  • Knowledge of the legal job market.
  • Knowledge of legal resume and cover letter formats.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for seeking professional legal employment, and of legal employers and their hiring needs.
  • High energy level for student service.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment, and to work on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to create marketing pieces.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Foreign language proficiency is a plus.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • LL.M. in Taxation.
  • Previous career counseling, marketing, workshop planning experience.
  • Mentoring experience.

Technical Qualifications:
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google documents.
  • Demonstrated ability in computer and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge of Symplicity Career Services Management (CSM) system preferred.
  • Understanding of career services databases and online resources.
