JOB SUMMARY:

Supports the research and educational mission of the College of Engineering and Science Automotive Engineering (AuE) program by providing technical, and laboratory operations supports. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Testing and Customer Service
Supports engineering and testing services provided to outside companies. Makes instrumentation and measurement setups and performs data acquisition. Conducts tests per customer specifications. Assists with the implementation of additions and modifications to laboratory infrastructure and utilities as required to meet research and testing requirements. Assists in compiling labor and other expenditures for various internal and external research projects.

30% - Essential - Center for Manufacturing Innovation Safety and Support
Principle staff member for general operations and safety for the CMI laboratory facility located at the Greenville Technical College campus adjacent to the CGEC. CMI operations responsibilities include but not limited to: Safety hazards assessments in coordination with Clemson University Research Safety, safety training, lab equipment tracking and upkeep, and other duties as needed.

15% - Essential - Customer Interface and Business Development
Identify potential clients and complete appropriate research on the prospective client's engineering test needs. Develop relationships with prospective clients, while maintaining our existing client relationships. Understand testing processes specific for dynamometers, environmental chambers, anechoic chamber and shaker systems. Recommend test set-ups, estimate testing time and costs, perform testing and data acquisition, analyze testing results and write engineering test reports.

15% - Essential - CGEC Laboratory Operations
Responsible for asset management and auditing, which includes that the assets are in good working order and calibrated as needed.
Responsible for hardware and software updates to test cells and data acquisitions systems.
Responsible for fleet and research vehicles, which includes registration, licensing, and maintenance records

10% - Essential - Faculty and Student Support
Assists faculty and students in the support of research activities. Assists with the development and operation of student classroom labs. Provides mentoring and support of Deep Orange integration programs, which include training in the use of specialized tools, aspects of vehicle systems integration, instrumentation requirements and testing methods.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree

Work Experience 5+ years in the automotive field, focused on powertrain or driveline systems

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Requirements include the support of research and industry testing, along with mentoring of students to enhance their research goals.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Exposure to heat or cold
- Wet or humid
- Noise
- Overnight Travel

Operation of test cells may require exposure to extreme temperatures (environmental chamber) and noise levels at or above 80 dB (dynamometers)
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree - Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Operation of test cells, knowledge of powertrain and driveline systems

WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hours: 37.5; Salary Range: $84,000.00 - $110,200.00
