The Fire and Security Systems Manager directs the planning, layout installation, integration and commissioning of Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Protection/Suppression Systems, Security Monitoring, CCTV and Surveillance Systems. The position oversees the annual maintenance contracts and the work of multiple outside contractors to ensure timely inspections of Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Protection/Suppression Systems, and related Safety to Life Systems, in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

This is a district position requiring the individual to work on all campuses.

•Supervises the work of several contractors and their MDC annual maintenance contracts, associated with fire alarm systems, access control systems, security and CCTV surveillance systems
•Coordinates and ensures the annual testing and certification of the fire alarm and fire suppression systems, in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
•Provides expert advice and assists the Facilities Project Managers with minor and major capital projects, including but not limited to: Planning and layout, budgeting, reviewing of construction plans and specifications and providing review comments at various stages of design, permitting, shop drawing review, construction, integration and commissioning
•Works closely with MDC Information Technology (IT) department for integration of Access Control and CCTV surveillance components and systems, with MDC legacy systems and networks
•Works closely with the administration and the office of public safety, at each campus, to ensure Fire Alarm, CCTV Surveillance and access control systems are functional and trouble free, at all times
•Collaborates with MDC Chief Locksmith to coordinate all door hardware with access control system requirements for all minor and major capital projects
•Monitors media (phone lines, fiber, and network jacks) for all systems noted above, in close coordination with MDC telecommunication and IT departments
•Conducts walk thru site observations on project sites to check for quality workmanship and adherence to MDC standards and issues observation reports
•Works closely with Facilities Project Managers to provide design standards and criteria, planning and budgeting information and expert advice throughout the lifecycle of projects, from concept design through schematic design development and permit documents through construction and occupancy while ensuring compliance with applicable, Local, State and National Codes governing the design and installation

•Master’s degree in engineering or related field, and two (2) years of related technical experience in planning, layout, implementation, maintenance and supervision of fire alarm systems, burglar alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV systems, and code enforcement, or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and six (6) years of related technical experience in planning, layout, implementation, maintenance and supervision of fire alarm systems, burglar alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV systems, and code enforcement
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
•Knowledge and understanding of the latest state of the art Addressable Fire alarm Systems, IP based CCTV Surveillance and Security Monitoring systems, and ability to master plan and prepare budgetary estimates
•Knowledge and ability, with proven track record, in management of multiple maintenance contracts in a similar institutional setting
•Knowledge of applicable NFPA codes, local codes and ordinances, inspection procedures, and industry best practices
•Knowledge and skill in operations and management of fire alarm and security surveillance systems administration software
•Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and data database systems software
•Ability to effectively supervise and manage the department area
•Possess proficient time-management and organizational skills
•Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
