The Psychiatrist and Counseling Center Director is responsible for the administration, planning and evaluation of mental health programs and services and provides direct clinical and consultation services as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:
M.D. who has completed an accredited psychiatric residency
Required Certifications:
Medical license
Professional psychiatry certification
Board Certified or Eligible
Licensed to practice in New York
Required Experience
Five (5) years of directly related experience including demonstrated
administrative experience encompassing supervisory, financial management,
and strategic planning

Preferred QualificationsMinimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Ability to assess and provide for the day-to-day needs of mentally, emotionally and/or developmentally disabled patients
•Demonstrated ability to collaborate with healthcare providers, including ability to supervise and lead a team.
•Requires strong clinical skills and judgment
•Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
•Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
•Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
•Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
•Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
•Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient
•Ability to assess mental status in patients and to develop individual treatment goals and plans

Normal office and clinic environments. Subject to exposure to blood borne pathogens, latex, dust, fumes, odors, mists, gasses, biological, mechanical, electrical, chemical and other hazardous materials. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, push/pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, lift, balance and perform repetitive movements. The work is fast paced and demanding. May be subject to irregular hours. Frequently deals with students in emotional crisis, responding to after hours emergencies.

Additional Information

Reporting to the Executive Director for Student Health, the Director of the Counseling Center provides leadership, vision and management direction for the professional services that address the developmental and mental health needs of Rensselaer students. The Director is responsible for the administration, planning and evaluation of mental health programs and services and provides direct clinical and consultation services as needed.
