Post-Doctoral Fellow

NATURE OF WORK

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (University of Colorado Medical School) in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, the Department of Pediatrics, and the Data Science to Patient Value Initiative is accepting applicants for a postdoctoral position focused on developing systems physiologic modeling and data assimilation.

 

The primary application areas for this position include lung/pulmonary modeling and forecasting to better understand Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and the modeling and forecasting of blood glucose dynamics in clinical settings that include blood glucose management in the intensive care unit (ICU) and type-2 diabetes. The goal of this project is to combine empirical data with mechanistic physiologic knowledge through data assimilation (DA), mechanistic mathematical modeling, machine learning, and control theory to produce personalized, quantitative predictions that can lead to improved treatments.

 

This project is part of a larger collaborative data assimilation and physiological modeling effort in biomedicine including: Brad Smith’s group at the University of Colorado, the George Hripcsak’s group at Columbia University, Lena Mamykina’s group at Columbia University, Esteban Tabak’s group at the Courant Institute, Will Ott’s group at the University of Texas, Bruce Gluckman’s group at Pennsylvania State University, Andrew Stuart’s group at CalTech, Arthur Sherman’s group a NIDDK, Cecilia Diniz Behn’s group at the Colorado School of Mines, Noemie Elhadad’s group at Columbia University and Erica Graham group’s at Byrn Mawr. The position is for one year, with possibility for extension to three years contingent on progress and funding.

SALARY OR SALARY RANGE

Salary will be based on the current NIH postdoctoral pay scale guidelines, and is commensurate with skills and experience. The Universityof Colorado offers a full benefits package. Information on University benefitsprograms, including eligibility, is located at Employee Services.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. applied mathematics, physics, engineering, computational biology, statistics, or a related field, strong mathematical background with experience in dynamical systems modeling and estimation, an interest in multi-disciplinary research, and fluency in programming languages.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

  • The successful candidate must have a strong publication record in high-impact journals and demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research.
