  Responsibilities

Claflin University invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the University through their leadership, community service, research, and/or practical criminal justice lived experiences.

 

The successful candidate will perform teaching, research, and related faculty functions related to their expertise and as needed by the University. They will be expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs both in-person and online. The candidate should be a generalist but specifically able to teach courses in research methods, criminology, statistics in criminal justice, victimology, and diversity. Additional teaching preferences in judicial administration, legal research & records, violent crime, profiling, and cybercrime. In addition, this candidate should be able to teach graduate courses in threat assessment, crime analysis, GIS, and interrogation.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to maintain an ongoing program of research and publication, the potential to secure external grant funding to support that research, and the willingness to contribute substantially to the department’s teaching mission.

 

Additionally, Candidates who can contribute to the development and implementation of that program are especially desirable. Candidates with expertise in and experience with interdisciplinary work, certificate programs, innovative research-related technology, and/or community outreach are also invited to apply.

 

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or closely related discipline required.  Area of specialization is opened but the successful candidate should also be a generalist and willing to teach courses in criminology, and criminal justice systems. Research interest could be around Social Justice, Race and Gender, Sexuality and Prison Reform.

 

SALARY: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
