The Department of Humanities at Claflin University is an invigorating, new interdisciplinary program with majors and minors in History, Philosophy and Religion, Spanish, and African/African American Studies (AAAS). The Department of Humanities seeks to hire several new faculty over the next three years to assist in this exciting phase of growth and development that leads to increased visibility of both our Program and academic majors.


We are seeking a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor in Black Diaspora Studies for Fall 2019.


The successful candidate must be able to teach courses in African American Studies, Caribbean and the African Diaspora, social and political movements, and senior seminar courses and offer courses in area of specialty that contribute to both the AAAS and History majors; also teach a section of required freshman course, African American Heritage. This individual will advise students in the area of African American Studies, serving on departmental committees related to curriculum review and development, and assisting with departmental programs and research initiatives as well.



PhD preferred but ABD candidates near completion of the degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applicants should have a record of teaching excellence, actively participate in departmental/campus service, and have a strong commitment to forwarding the global vision and institution building of Claflin University, South Carolina’s first historically Black college. Tenure-track appointments must also be actively engaged in research.


SALARY:  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
