This position is a full-time, 11-month (August – June), non-tenure-track faculty appointment reporting to the Director of Athletics.
Coaching duties include the organization, development, and administration of all phases of the varsity swimming program including, but not limited to, scheduling, team travel, budget preparation, equipment purchasing and maintenance, and running meets and daily practice sessions. There is a strong emphasis on the recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes with annual recruiting goals. Teaching duties may include a variety of physical education activity courses, and knowledge and willingness to teach other activity courses are welcomed. This position also serves as the Aquatics Coordinator, and is responsible for upkeep, scheduling, and policies for the pool; directing camps and clinics; and managing lifeguards during the academic year and summer.
Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in physical education or related field; minimum of two years of swimming coaching experience and physical education instruction, preferably at the collegiate level; thorough understanding and working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; and a valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations. Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching methods; exhibit excellent recruiting, leadership, role-modeling, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; have demonstrated success working with diverse populations; and possess Microsoft Office proficiency. Applicants must also have abilities to work well with students, families, and campus constituencies; work independently and as part of a team; and work within the framework of ODAC policies and NCAA rules and regulations. Candidates must also be able to obtain and maintain lifeguarding instructor certification, and be able and willing to travel and work evenings and weekends. Applicants with experience in a single-sex, residential, liberal arts higher education institution are preferred. Final candidates will be subject to criminal history and motor vehicle background checks.
Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, salary requirement, and contact information for three references to hollinshr@hollins.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.
