Full-Time Close All Job Summary

The Chatterjee lab has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral fellow starting in Spring/Summer of 2019 for one year with the possibility of subsequent renewal. This position will spearhead an academic/industry collaboration which seeks to further develop a novel therapeutic discovery platform. Underlying this platform is a systems biology approach that integrates clinical outcomes data, multi-omic immune data, and microbial genetics via the application of deep learning techniques to identify novel therapeutic molecular entities from the human intestinal microbiome. Goals of this collaboration include the expression and characterization of these novel molecular entities, basic immunophenotyping, and development of high throughput expression and phenotypic methods. The ideal candidate has experience with advanced molecular cloning techniques, human commensal bacteria (microbiome), and basic in vitro and in vivo immunology techniques. The position includes opportunities for publication, grant applications, and ongoing collaboration with the industry partner.

Who We AreFounded in 1893, the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder is the second largest of seven schools and colleges at one of the nation's top public research institutions. As Colorado's flagship university, CU Boulder has selective admissions standards and a comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs.
Our group draws on deep domain expertise is systems biology, chemical engineering, and microbiology, to develop novel approaches with wide ranging applications in biotech and synthetic biology. Our recent work includes the development of innovative delivery methods of intracellular payloads, plasmid-free genetic manipulation, and antimicrobial modalities. While much of our work has traditionally focused on meeting the challenges of antimicrobial resistance, we have begun to leverage our expertise in microbial genetics as a means to explore the complex axis between the intestinal commensal bacterial and the human immune system. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The postdoctoral researcher will work with staff and students in the Chatterjee lab to optimize expression and chemical characterization (i.e. LCMS, NMR) of bacterially derived molecules. The candidate will also design and conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to characterize an immunophenotype for molecular entities and potential probiotic agents. In addition to having experience with molecular methods, mammalian tissue culture, and bacterial culture, a proficiency in technical scientific writing is required.
