Non-Tenure Track Position

Salary: Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2018-2019 Salary Schedule – $59,926 to $112,199 per year, plus an annual $2,568 stipend for an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $93,028.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Master’s Degree in Spanish OR Bachelor’s in Spanish AND Master’s in another language or linguistics OR a California Community College Instructor credential appropriate to the subject OR the equivalent.

Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

 

Job Description Summary    

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Teach a full range of lower division Spanish language courses, including Spanish for native speakers and Latin American or Chicano Literature.

•    Encourage students, who form a non-traditional, ethnically diverse student population, to succeed.

•    Maintain an appropriate number of office hours per week, during which students can be advised about their course work and their program of studies.

•    Attend division, department, and general college meetings.

•    Participate in various division, college and district committees

•    This assignment may include evening and week-end classes.

•    Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications    

•    Recent experience teaching Spanish Language classes.

•    Knowledge of diverse learning styles and current theories and methods in foreign language instruction.

•    Experience in the use of technology to facilitate student success in learning Spanish.

•    Experience using course management programs and current technologies to teach hybrid and fully online Spanish courses.

•    Experience revising course and program learning outcomes, as well as collecting, analyzing, and interpreting assessment data to improve teaching and learning.

•    Meets the minimum qualifications to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) non-credit courses (Bachelor’s degree in any foreign language and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a non credit instructor.)

•    Personal qualifications such as: effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations.
