POSITION: DIRECTOR, ONLINE LEARNING

LOCATION: DEPARTMENT OF ONLINE LEARNING

The Director of Online Learning reports into the Dean, Professional Education and Lifelong Learning. Currently, the NJCU Department of Online Learning has two full-time instructional designers, an administrative assistant, and two-part time support staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Planning, Direction, and Coordination. Meet with the administration, chairs and faculty to develop and revise responsive plans for the college's initiatives in online education as needed. Verifies the training of online faculty. Directs the work of staff assigned to the Department of Online Learning. Recommends changes, as needed, to the online education staff. Communicates with other university support services to coordinate support for online faculty, students, and potential students. Collaborates with IT to recommend and evaluate technologies relevant to online learning. Consults with office of Marketing and Communications to ensure website addresses online opportunities and services. Oversees response to helpdesk work orders from faculty regarding online teaching. Schedules, coordinates and markets training for online faculty in the development of online instructional materials and online instructional methods, as needed. Assists online faculty in gaining skills to use instructional technology and software. Keeps abreast of new developments and research in online education, and shares this information with faculty as appropriate. Oversee Online Student Technical Support. Facilitates informational needs of students and potential students. Responds directly to online students' concerns, and takes appropriate actions based on these concerns. Coordinates departmental student support services with other student support services. Evaluation, Assessment and Reporting (including providing data for Middle States accreditation purposes). Establishes and oversees a Course Design Quality program (through Quality Matters) for the use of research-based evaluative criteria in the assessment of online courses and programs. Completes required reports for administration (Deans, Institutional Effectiveness, etc.) as needed. Reviews courses prior to implementation before each to semester to ensure content is readily available for students. Supervise the staff of the Department of Online Learning (Educational Technologists, Administrative Assistant, and part-time technology support personnel). Attend and participate in director meetings, as needed. Manage evaluation of the departments’ staff performance. Manage the departmental budget. Maintain licensing for supported software applications and subscriptions (Respondus, Turnitin, Quality Matters). Develop and maintain departmental goals and objectives on a yearly basis. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work independently under minimum supervision is required.

EDUCATION: A minimum of a Master’s degree.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is required. Two years of management experience.
