Description: The Study of U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders (SUSI) Program is seeking a Residence Hall Mentor to reside with program participants and assist with various program related duties. In addition to the 20 hours of pay for this position, the mentor will also receive housing in the dorm with participants (July 1-August 2) and some dining services credit.

Miami University will be hosting 20 foreign Spanish speaking students from The Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) on our Oxford campus.

Will need to dedicate 20 hours of work weekly, including weekends

Assist with program orientation.

Independently conduct dorm group orientation

Serve as a liaison with SUSI Program participants and director/coordinator

Serve as a cultural ambassador and mentor to 20 program participants from Latin American countries

Coordinate and supervise optional weekend trips with other student program staff

Attend program events/meetings (and assist in interpreting at some events)

Post daily announcements

Resolve conflicts between program participants

Assist with English classes, country presentations and interpreting at events

Write weekly reports detailing student life in the dorm (accidents, behavioral issues, conflicts, etc.)

Take students on weekly shopping trip

Set-up dorms for student arrival

Attend welcome dinner

Assist students in emergencies/lock outs

Time period of job is July 1-August 2, 2019 on the Oxford, Ohio campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Advanced Spanish language proficiency

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Ability to lead and collaborate with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds

Residence life or student/academic leadership experience preferred

Ability to be available to program participants on evenings and weekends on a consistent basis
