Student Employee - Livingston County Center (Howell)

Description

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students with the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters while actively attending classes at LCC.

Student Aides who work at the Livingston County Center (LIVCEN) located in Howell assist a diverse population of students, community members, faculty and staff in an informative, courteous and professional manner and provide general upkeep of the facility. Student Aides perform a variety of customer services, clerical, technical and facility set-up duties.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Assist potential students and members of the community with face-to-face and telephone inquiries about LCC
  • Assist students with LCC admissions, assessment/testing, registration, student records and scheduling advising appointments
  • Assist instructors with general clerical, procedural and instructional technology support
  • Help maintain the facility by setting-up classrooms and computer equipment, stocking supplies and organizing rooms
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

Preferred Skills:

  • Able and willing to work with students, the public, and other college employees in a courteous and professional manner at all times
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong keyboarding and Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work reliably both independently as well as in a team environment
  • Able and willing to work with a diverse and sometimes 'at risk' student population
  • Physically able to push/pull 100 lbs. and lift 30 lbs. (such as wheeled computer carts, tables, and copy paper boxes)
  • Willingness to learn and follow general college policies, office procedures, federal privacy laws, and security protocols

Applicants must be available to work a set schedule. Center hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. and Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Most aides work 10 -25 hours per week. Hours may be reduced between semesters due to reduced needs and hours of operation. Work hours will be arranged around the student's class schedule.

Education and Experience

The following requirements apply each semester, in order to maintain eligibility and continue working as a student employee:

- Enrolled & actively attending is required to maintain employment eligibility (i.e. minimum LCC credit hours by semester):

    Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 creditsSummer Semester = 3.0 credits

- International students with an F-1 visa and valid I-20 issued by LCC must meet the following minimum enrollment/credit requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS) regulations:

    Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 creditsSummer Semester = 3.0 credits
- Minimum 2.0 GPA or have approval to waive requirement unless it is the student’s first semester of enrollment at LCC

- Must be at least 18 years of age and/or a high school graduate who is at least 17 with a valid, signed work permit

Hours per Week: Up to 25 hours/week

Hourly Wage: $9.60/hour
