Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic - One-year position - Middlebury College
The Department of Arabic at Middlebury College announces an opening for a one-year position in Arabic at the Visiting Assistant Professor rank beginning the Fall semester of 2019, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent upon administrative approval. Superior language proficiency in both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and English is required, as is native or native-like proficiency in one Arabic dialect. The area of specialization for the position is open, but preference will be given to candidates whose specializations complement (rather than overlap with) the specializations of the Arabic department's faculty.
The successful candidate will teach MSA courses at all levels, from beginning to advanced levels, including the possibility of upper-level courses in Arabic in their disciplinary area.Candidates should hold a PhD in their area of specialization or should at least have near-term plans for completion of their doctorate by the time of appointment. Candidates must have prior experience teaching MSA at the college level, preferably in a liberal arts college setting, and in accordance with the proficiency-based communicative approach to Arabic language pedagogy.

This is followed by the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, which brings together 200 authors and aspiring authors for 11 days of intensive exchange about the art of writing. The Bread Loaf School of English is in session each summer not only in Middlebury but also at Lincoln College, Oxford, in the United Kingdom; at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
