These individuals will provide support to residential students and residence life student staff, which will require them to work a variety of hours, be on call at least two weekends a month, live on campus and complete Resident Hall Director Training at the start of August. The position is for 9 months, provides room and board, on campus parking permit, and monthly stipend of $1,000.

Essential Functions:

  • Housing Assignments
  • Serves as a contact for students requesting to make changes to their housing assignment and coordinates such changes
  • Serves as a contact in roommate conflicts
  • Residence Halls
    • Assists with coordinating the opening and closing of residence halls, including coordinating keys distribution
    • Conduct room inspections at the start and close of each term
    • Inventories keys regularly and orders replacement keys when needed
  • Residence Life Student Staff
    • Assists the selection, training and hiring of Resident Advisors
    • Schedules and conducts monthly staff meetings with duty groups and residence hall student staff
    • Coordinates a minimum of one Staff Development activity per term
    • Assist Resident Advisors with programming
  • Implements crisis management procedures if/when the need arises.
  • Identifies students who may require counseling.
  • Attend staff meetings as needed
  • Supervise Work Study Students
  • Maintains open communication with students.
  • Weekly on-call rotations, including assisting with interhall visitation
  • Assist in disciplinary issues as they arise
  • Aid in retention by offering increase student care within the residence halls, the ability to develop stronger relationships with students and offering weekend programming.
Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the day-to-day operations of Student Services
  • Committee assignments as needed
  • Performs such other college-related duties as may be required by the Assistant Director of Residence Life, Director of Residence Life, Dean of Student Services, or Vice President of Student Services.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree required
  • Enrolled in Graduate Program
  • American Red Cross first aid and CPR certification or equivalent recommended
  • Willingness to work outside the standard office hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Ability to interact and develop working relationships with students
  • Ability to effectively manage student staff and student volunteer organizations
  • Ability to interact with faculty and professional staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with College policy
  • Ability to access multi-storied buildings and multiple-level staircases
