The Graduate Center’s newly established Office of Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation is seeking a Program Development Director. The Graduate Center aims to build a variety of credit and non-credit programs to go with its well-established and distinguished doctoral programs and its growing portfolio of master’s programs. Reporting directly to the Dean for Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation, the Program Development Director uses a collaborative and learner-centered approach to develop new learning experiences and programming opportunities for a diverse range of audiences including for students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and the public. The different types of programs may include career-oriented programs, academically aligned programs, and culturally aligned programs.

Collaborating with the Dean, Executive Officers, faculty, staff, students and external partners, the Program Development Director is involved in the development of non-credit and for-credit programs, courses and events, evaluation, and strategy for a wide range of new programming across the Graduate Center. The Program Development Director will serve as an expert on building a suite of programs that align with the mission/vision of the Graduate Center and contribute to an environment of innovation, collaboration and overall educational excellence, enhancing the Graduate Center’s profile and expanding its reach.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Works within a start-up environment, assisting the Dean in building the operational infrastructure to support the development of new institutional programming and community engagement. 
- Develops new open enrollment and custom programs in conjunction with the Dean and program development teams based on academic needs, market opportunities, faculty research and interests.
- Works with the Dean to develop custom program proposals for potential program partners and institutional clients.
- Supports the Dean in leading new program/course initiatives and works closely with stakeholders; attends meetings as needed to develop a comprehensive and pedagogically sound learner-center program, curriculum documentation and assessment plan that meets defined program learning objectives.
- Evaluates programs, policies and procedures; identifies issues and develops alternative solutions, which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
- Creates and implements program evaluations and recommends improvements to the program content based on feedback from participants.
- Reviews and analyzes trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
- Stays current on the Graduate Center’s academic programs, centers and institutes as well as trends in higher education and industry; keeps current  on trends in leading corporations, schools and organizations (public/private) with an eye towards areas that fit with the Graduate Center’s mission and the needs of the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

    - Directs curriculum development and operations of a College's specialized academic program under executive oversight. 
- Designs, implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan 
- Administers all curricular, administrative, and financial aspects of the program 
- Oversees program evaluation efforts and creates strategic plan to further develop program offerings 
- Manages annual budget; develops proposals and other initiatives for expanded program support 
- Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships; serves as primary liaison to faculty and administrators to plan and execute programming activities 
- May participate in faculty recruitment efforts 
- Manages professional and clerical staff 
- Performs related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

A preferred candidate should have:
- Demonstrated understanding of program development, executive and/or continuing education, cross-organizational partnerships and external stakeholder management.
- Thorough knowledge on designing, developing, delivering and assessing learning programs for adult learners and programs that engage the community.
- Ability to take initiative and integrate diverse opportunities and complex viewpoints into simple program/business plans.
- Ability to be creative and enjoy working within a new (start-up), small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines with the ability to foresee and resolve a wide variety of business problems and take action where answers to a problem are not readily apparent.
- Ability to accomplish goals by working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
- Ability to innovate, design and implement new programming concepts.
- Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to collaborate with different faculty, staff, and external partners); strong stakeholder/partner management skills.
- Ability to provide structure to a complex and evolving program development process.
- Knowledge of instructional design, program evaluation and assessment.
- Knowledge of professional/continuing education, event planning, and marketing either through education or work experience.
- Strong attention to details, excellent critical thinking skills, and ability to exercise good judgement.
