This position performs professional accounting activities to ensure that the University and entities meet their legal reporting requirements with respect to Federal, State and Local laws and GAAP standards.  This full time position reports to the Tax Manager in the Division of Administration and Finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in reconciling W2's at year-end as well as making all tax payments on timely basis.
  • Assist with all applicable tax filings for the University and its component units, including sales tax, nonresident alien forms and 1099 filings.
  • Assist with tax research and the development and maintenance of the tax information website.
  • Assist in preparing Federal Form 990s for University and its component units.
  • Assist staff accountant in preparing the prepaid expense reconciliation.
  • Prepare and maintain the budget for Fiscal Affairs
  • Prepare and maintain the University’s prize receipt database
  • Familiar with EMMA bond disclosure requirements.
  • Familiar with state record retention policies
  • Maintains policy and procedure manual for tax functions.
  • Maintain Bank Inter-fund Account Control and General Ledger/Subsidiary Ledger Control
  • Responsible for biweekly payroll process of payments and deductions. Ensuring all payroll tax liabilities are being withheld at proper rates. Complete reconciliations between the HRIS and Finance systems.
  • Process and reconcile FURFEED and analyze payroll postings to accounting system, reconciling monthly the balances in the general ledger.
  • Work with the payroll department in identifying and investigating reconciling items and complete reconciliations of payroll adjustments.
  • Prepare biweekly payroll liability payments and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of the University and SASI’s quarterly tax returns.  This entails processing Federal Employer Withholding, NJ, and PA quarterly tax returns as well as Social Security, Unemployment, and Disability quarterly reports.  Ensuring all federal, State, and local taxes have been properly reported and payments have been made on timely basis.
  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recording of payroll for the University and any of its component units.
  • Assist in the annual audit. Ensure all journal entries are completed. Prepare audit schedules relating to payroll and assists the tax manager with auditor inquiries.
  • Run Journal Entry transaction report semi-annually to verify control procedures are being followed.
  • Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, various scanning and filing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or other Finance related major from an accredited college
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organization and interpersonal skills are necessary
  • Proficient with MS Excel, MS Word and experience with general ledger accounting software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or MBA Candidate
  • Banner experience and OU Campus website development software.
