Position Description:
Oversee the efficient operation of a plumbing crew who inspects, maintains, repairs, designs, modifies and/or alters campus infrastructure to include all buildings, common areas, equipment, and building systems, and ensures the efficient operation of the campus. Assemble, install, and repair pipes (composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, copper, lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic), pipe fittings, valves and fixtures of heating, cooling water, and drainage systems, cut and thread pipes using pipe cutters and cutting torch. Install and repair plumbing fixtures; operate, inspect and maintain tools of the plumbing trade; perform finish plumbing and trim work. Understand and apply plumbing code, water and waste systems, medical gas systems, and other specialty systems that are located throughout the UCLA complex; develop layouts; clean-up job site; and assure good safety practices are observed on the job site and tools and equipment are used with caution. Assume responsibility for communicating job-related problems to appropriate supervisory levels in order to resolve on-site job concerns; communicate effectively with clients, work with computers, problem solve efficiently, and schedule work and oversee work of crews (sometimes with outside vendors) and maintain flexibility when problems arise; make decisions if called to; schedule system outages; ability to write estimates; and coordinate work by multiple crafts on multiple shifts.
