The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for establishing long-range goals and objectives for development programs and activities of the Library. This individual will strategically qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors to increase gifts to the Library. The Director will develop and manage a portfolio of a specified number of individual and organization major and planned gift donors and prospects; work with the Executive Director to establish goals and objectives for the program as well as develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to secure major and planned gifts. This individual will also prepare annual operating plans, evaluate progress at appropriate intervals; work with high-level volunteers and support their efforts in securing financial support for the Library; serve as a resource to Library Development colleagues; and collaborate with Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Women in Philanthropy, and other professional development officers across campus to enhance the pool of major and planned donor prospects. In addition, the Director will work collaboratively with professional schools, UCLA College, Athletics and Health Sciences-based development officers, volunteers and campus leaders to enhance the visibility and funding priorities of the Library and increase philanthropic interest. Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 8:00 am Shift End: 5:30 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 17 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred 1.Minimum of three years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. Required 2.Commitment to the mission, vision and values of the UCLA Library and to the transformative power of philanthropy. Required 3.Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity. Required 4.Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. Required 5.Strong documented record of planned and major gifts solicited and closed and/or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. Required 6.Familiarity with and experience in planned giving, including marketing, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Required 7.Outstanding interpersonal and team-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively with senior academic leadership, high-level staff across campus and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals. Required 8.Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs. Required 9.Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision. Required 10.Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA's fundraising goals and the specific priorities of the UCLA Library; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness. Required 11.Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports. Required 12.Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information. Required 13.Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events. Required 14.Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies. Required 15.Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed. Required 16.Bachelor's degree is preferred. Preferred 17.Understanding of a major research and academic library and familiarity with the particular fundraising challenges of a non-alumni based unit is preferred.
