Nature of Work

The Department of Education and Teacher Preparation at the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education to begin in August 2019. Dynamic applicants who are interested in working with teacher education faculty in a collaborative environment to prepare candidates for initial teacher certification are encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants must have successful experience in teaching at the P-12 level. Experience with undergraduate teaching, advising, field experience supervision, and curriculum development is preferred as is knowledge of current evidence-based practices in teacher education, innovation in curriculum development, assessment for continuous improvement initiatives, professional development school or clinical school models, and performance-based formative/summative evaluation strategies. Qualified applicants will be expected to collaborate with faculty in the Education and Teacher Preparation Program to support connections across courses and fieldwork. This position is a full-time tenure-track appointment starting Fall 2019. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Preference will be given to applications received by April 15, 2019.

Essential Duties

• Teach undergraduate level curriculum planning and/or instructional methods courses for prospective elementary, middle, and/or secondary education teachers
• Supervise teacher candidates at the elementary, middle and/or secondary level
• Contribute to the collegial community of the department to establish and maintain excellence within and across initial teacher preparation programs
• Advise undergraduate students majoring in elementary, middle, and/or secondary education
• Scholarly activities including, but not limited to, research, course development, publishing, conference presentations, or grant procurement as aligned to the Boyer Model of Scholarship
• Provide service to the department, college, and partnering school districts, as applicable

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Minimum qualifications require the applicant to hold a terminal degree in a teacher education related field with 3 years of teaching experience at the elementary, middle grades, secondary, and/or college level. Candidates must also have excellent written and oral communication skills and exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Preference will be given to applicants with areas of specialization in reading/literacy and/or Social Studies education and a record of success in teaching at the undergraduate college level. Additional preference will be given to candidates with expertise in bilingual education, special education, EdTPA preparation, and/or social studies education. The preferred applicant will document experience supporting in-service or pre-service teacher development of curriculum, evidence-based instructional approaches, and the use of on-going assessment to inform instructional decisions. The preferred applicant will exhibit a commitment to student learning and teacher candidate success.
