The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a one-year visiting lecturer of Biology, beginning Fall 2018. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to participate in continued development of the UNT Dallas Biology Department, which offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biology. This new faculty member will also provide leadership in developing curricula and experiential learning opportunities, with internships in multiple Biology sectors and service-learning throughout the community.

We are particularly interested in student-centric, innovative, and energetic candidates who can help lead the development of UNTD's Biology Department through program development, student recruitment, and community outreach. We seek an experienced leader and Biology generalist who can contribute to the Biology program by teaching a range of biology and health-related bioscience courses, such as anatomy & physiology, microbiology, virology, and pathobiology. This new faculty member will be responsible for advising student organizations, developing online courses, and building collaborative relationships with area agencies, clinics, hospitals, and private sector entities.

Expectations for Lecturers at UNTD include excellent teaching, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course load each semester. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, service, and program development. Faculty are also expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, program assessment, and committee leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Biology or other closely related field.
  • Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Experience in teaching a range of biology and health-related bioscience courses, such as anatomy & physiology, microbiology, virology, and pathobiology.
  • Experience in developing collaborative partnerships in Biology sectors.
  • Experience or demonstrated potential in building, maintaining, and supervising a broad-based student internship program.
  • Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in community service.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and team-building communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research students.
  • Experience in curriculum development and developing interdisciplinary degree programs.
  • Experience in building and supervising student organizations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing service learning and experiential learning in curricular and co-curricular settings.
  • Experience in promoting and marketing academic programs in the Biology sector.
  • Academic experience working with a culturally diverse population.

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
Work requires some muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as standing for long periods of time, recurring bending, or recurring lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
