Director of Admissions
University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame, one of the leading national private research universities with a distinctive position among the nation's most selective universities because of its Catholic character and mission, as well as its commitment to undergraduate teaching and student research, seeks inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Director of Admissions.

The Director of Admissions position reports to the Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment and the director will serve as the primary admissions officer in representing the University with national organizations and in our relationships with peer institutions.
The director will join a dynamic senior leadership team during a time of growth and opportunity for the University. Over the past nine years, first-year applications have increased 50%, and applicants in the top 1% of the nation in national testing have more than doubled. This year, 22,200 students applied for admission to one of the 2,050 positions in the first-year class. The University's yield rate among admitted students is about 60%. Notre Dame offers a Restrictive Early Action option rather than an Early Decision option.

While Notre Dame has always had one of the nation's most geographically diverse undergraduate enrollments, the University is also growing its global, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity. In the past ten years, financial aid scholarships have risen at twice the rate of tuition increases. Over 54% of the student body receives institutional funding.
The director will play a critical role in shaping the University's future, providing leadership and vision for enrollment efforts that will continue to be both ambitious and supportive to student success and personal formation.

The director will assess the enrollment opportunities and challenges for Notre Dame and execute and shape an ambitious admissions effort that complements the mission of the University. This effort balances the importance of outreach recruitment to increase diversity and talent, as well as a sophisticated selection process that is evolving to ensure our selections are based on points of wisdom and not a simplistic effort to seek increases in measured numbers.

The director will work within a team-oriented enrollment management organization and lead the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. In that role, we seek a leader with exceptional analytic, interpersonal and communication skills, and the enthusiasm to partner with an interested and supportive University community, including the president, senior administration, Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, high school partners, and community-based organizations.
The successful candidate will possess outstanding leadership and management skills; significant breadth and depth of experience in college admissions; familiarity in the effective use of financial aid funds; experience and demonstrated success in recruiting international students, students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and student athletes; an innovative spirit; a willingness to take risks based on research; the ability to lead and manage staff and their efforts in large-scale initiatives; and demonstrated success in deploying processes and technologies. The successful candidate will also support and model the University's mission, values, and goals.

Through its succession planning, the Enrollment Division has cultivated a talented team of admissions professionals within its own staff. Although there is a preferred candidate for this position, Notre Dame will actively consider any applicant that fits our sense of professional talent and aligns their interests with our unique mission. It is an exciting opportunity, and we encourage seasoned and experienced admissions professionals to apply. Priority consideration will be given to completed applications received by April 2, 2019.

The position is open due to the retirement of Robert Mundy, who served in our admissions office for 36 years. We are deeply grateful to Bob for his amazing tenure and representation of Notre Dame.

The University of Notre Dame seeks to attract, develop, and retain the highest quality faculty, staff and administration. The University is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to building a culturally diverse workplace. We strongly encourage applications from female and minority candidates and others that will enhance our community. Moreover, Notre Dame prohibits discrimination against veterans or disabled qualified individuals, and requires affirmative action by covered contractors to employ and advance veterans and qualified individuals with disabilities in compliance with 41 CFR 60-741.5(a) and 41 CFR 60-300.5(a).
