Position Description

 

The Assistant Director of Security will provide operational assistance to the Director of Security. This position will assist in the responsibility to protect the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors by promoting a culture of security at all campuses.

As a member of Middle Leadership, the Assistant Director of Security will portray a broad institutional perspective that supports the College's mission, vision, and goals while fostering and creating an environment that strives to anticipate and meet customer needs. A Middle Leader will support a shared leadership culture through participation in and facilitation of teams.

In addition, Middle Leaders will live NTCs core beliefs or guiding principles/values: learner focus, continuous learning, innovation, access, service to community, diversity, culture of professionalism.

NOTE: Hours during the training period (approximately until summer 2019) for the position are Tuesday – Friday, 2:00 - 10:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. After training period hours are expected to be 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. This is a salaried, exempt position so hours will remain flexible to accommodate any situations that may arise.

Hours are subject to change to accommodate the needs of the students and the College.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assist Director of Security in training, scheduling, and supervising the Campus Security Team.

2. Provide security duties as assigned by the Director including the confidential investigations of incidents that occur at all campuses.

3. Appropriately confront policy violations, security problems and safety violations including enforcement of smoking and parking policies.

4. Patrol campus property and staff publicly accessible desk. Monitor communications via radio and telephone.

5. Assess and respond to emergency situations. Report serious activity on or adjacent to property to appropriate college leaders or to the appropriate authority.

6. Render first aid as appropriate.

7. Respond to active threat situations per appropriate protocol and training.

8. Assist in providing instruction and training to the NTC Community on crisis intervention, risk assessment, and personal safety.

9. Assist in Clery Reporting.

10. Actively participate in Tile IX investigations, training, and discussion.

11. All other duties and assignments as directed by the Director of Security.

Qualifications

 

Required:

1. This position requires an Associate degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice.

2. Must be able to respond quickly to and assist in the resolution of emergencies, disputes and fights. Training in Law Enforcement Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAAT). Additional self defense training and instructor certification a plus. Ability to pass the State of Wisconsin standardized law enforcement physical fitness test.

3. Ability to become CPR/AED certified and to complete First Responder or advanced first aid courses. Keep current these certifications.

4. Certified to carry a firearm under Wisconsin Concealed Carry law and the DMI Insurance guidelines of a qualified retired or active law enforcement officer, or a certified and credentialed firearms instructor under the WI Law Enforcement Standards Board.

5. Computer experience is required.

6. Must be self-motivated with good organizational skills.

7. Excellent communication skills to include writing clearly and concisely. Ability to work well with others and team members and develop relationships with law enforcement and external partners. Must be able and willing to address large/small groups of people.

Preferred:

1. Previous law enforcement, security or military background related to the position described.

2. Prior supervisory experience.
