Foundation, Corporate, and Government Relations Manager
Reports To: Assistant Vice President for Advancement
The position’s primary responsibility is to increase the capacity of leadership, faculty and staff to secure external funding to further the overall mission, vision and scholarship of the institution. This role works closely with individual faculty and departments to match programming needs and external funding opportunities with the institutional priorities determined by North Park leadership.
This position serves as the primary relationship manager for foundation, corporate and government prospects. Both independently and in coordination with faculty and staff, he/she researches funding opportunities, manages pre-award and post-award processes including budget and narrative development, internal approval processes, and reporting. This position is also responsible for providing faculty and staff with education and training on grant related topics and develops/manages policies and protocols for grant related activities.
This position staffs the Vice President for Advancement, the President, Provost and other appropriate North Park personnel in work with government, corporate, and foundation solicitations. He/she determines appropriate solicitation strategies, schedules visits and makes foundation calls and provides oversight to fundraising for special projects.
Prospect Research and External Relations
1. Utilize resources including the InfoEd SPIN+ database, Foundation Center, and grants.gov to identify potential funding sources for institutional projects and priorities and communicate opportunities to appropriate members of the institution.
2. Maintain active status in professional groups and associations that assist with prospect development and trends in the field.
3. Act as the primary contact point for private foundations including the Lilly Endowment, corporations/corporate foundations, and government funding sources including the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the U.S. Department of Education (DOE).
1. Manage the institutional processes for establishing submission priorities and proposal development, approval and submission.
2. Provide proposal development, editing, and review as needed and necessary to meet funder guidelines and requirements and assist with narrative and budget development.
3. Interface with government, corporate and foundation staff regarding the proposal and application process.
4. Act as the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) for proposals to federal sources including NSF and submit proposals and applications on behalf of staff and faculty.
1. Assure that all grant agreements are reviewed as appropriate by leadership, the Business Office, Human Resources, and University Marketing and Communications.
2. Manage the process of grant agreements and awards including reviewing grant agreements, signing grant agreements, and ongoing reporting requirements.
3. Give oversight to the stewardship and management of grant funds by providing information to all program participants regarding condition of grants, tracking expenditures, and working with program coordinators and the Business Office to develop and send reports.
4. Assist with reports as appropriate.
1. Maintain active hard copy files and electronic files.
2. Maintain accurate documentation of all working requests, visits, contacts, prospects, and programs.
3. Track individual donor status, i.e. strategy, calls, visits, gifts, moves management, in Raiser’s Edge.
4. Provide annual educational workshops for faculty and staff on proposal and grant related activities.
5. Develop and maintain a Grants Manual of policies related to grant management and budgeting.
6. Work with the Vice President and/or President and members of the senior team, along with appropriate campus partners in each area of relationship advancement.
- Three to five years proven experience in related areas, preferably grant writing and corporate and foundation relations.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Personal commitment and ability to appreciate, support, and effectively articulate North Park’s Christian liberal arts mission.
- Highly motivated, self-starter with a drive to identify viable funding options and secure grants
- Strong planning and organization skills, ability to think creatively and proactively.
- Experience working with Raiser’s Edge database.
- Ability to work independently, but also function as part of a team.
- Ability to work well with staff and faculty as an internal resource.
