Department of Bioengineering
The Department of Bioengineering seeks a Program Director to provide administrative oversight and operational leadership. Launching our department's affiliates program, as well as other programs and initiatives, you will be essential to helping us fulfill our mission. You will work in a dynamic environment that interfaces with many other groups both within and outside of Stanford. You will have the opportunity to create and drive complex projects and initiatives, shape and direct communications and policy in partnership with the Office of the Chair, central administration, and external institutions, affiliates, and collaborators. We are looking for a creative, motivated individual to independently lead creation and execution of program content, policy, data collection and will head up proposals and reporting. Stanford Bioengineering is a dynamic and rapidly growing department within the Stanford Schools of Engineering and Medicine. For more than a decade, the Department of Bioengineering has sought to advance bioengineering as a fundamental engineering discipline grounded in basic sciences, powered by unique engineering concepts and principles, capable of realizing many diverse applications. Our community ranges broadly from world class faculty and students, to esteemed alumni and dynamic administrators, our community includes some of the world's most successful leaders in bioengineering technology and business.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
  • Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
  • Representing the Department of Bioengineering and the program's Executive Director by leading communications, policy and procedure creation, and directing program initiatives.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for program-related affiliates, collaborators, external entities and inquiries.
  • Plan and schedule complex reporting, data collection, and tracking. Negotiate and manage the needs of affiliates or groups requesting program resources. May occasionally represent the supervisor by attending meetings in their absence.
  • Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
  • Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school by committing resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
  • Develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
  • Direct and/or supervise staff. * - Other duties may also be assigned



    To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and meet budget goals.
  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.
  • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
