Job Summary/Basic Function

The Waidner-Spahr Library of Dickinson College seeks a Technical Services Librarian who is user-focused, creative, collaborative, flexible, tech-savvy and has strong bibliographic/metadata management skills. This is an exciting time to join our team of dedicated, service-oriented individuals as we implement the Alma-Primo VE integrated library management system (with launch scheduled for June 18). The Technical Services Librarian will provide leadership, vision, and expertise for cataloging operations and initiatives that enable effective discovery of library resources. The position is responsible for managing cataloging operations, maintaining quality control, developing unit documentation, and problem solving in collaboration with library and IT staff and vendors. The Technical Services Librarian will work with other librarians and library staff to manage and shape our operations, including refinement of workflows and third-party integrations. As collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, e-resource management, discovery and fulfillment overlap and converge, this position of necessity requires the ability to see connections and collaborate across traditional library units and participate in shared problem-solving and decision making.

The Technical Services Librarian reports to the Associate Director of Library Resources & Administration and directly supervises 2-3 library technicians. The librarian will work especially closely with the E-Resources & Web Services Librarian and other technical services staff. Close collaboration with staff in other library units is frequent, essential, and enjoyed, as is contact with faculty, students, and other College staff.

Recognizing that technology and standards development is continual, we provide strong support for ongoing learning and professional development. This position also serves as liaison to a small number of academic departments, teaches information literacy in first year seminars and other classes, and assists with on-call reference consultation service including occasional evening and weekend shifts.

This is a 12 month, full-time position. Position start date is negotiable, with anticipated start in July or early August. Review of applications will begin May 1, 2019. The College is committed to building a representative and diverse faculty, administrative staff, and student body. We encourage applications from all qualified persons.

      Organization

Known for its innovative curriculum, Dickinson is a highly selective, private liberal-arts college. One of the nation's oldest colleges, and named in honor of a signer of the U.S. Constitution, Dickinson became the first college chartered in the newly recognized United States in September 1783.
As of 2015, Dickinson has just over 800 full-time employees - administrators, faculty and staff - and its 104-acre campus is populated by students from 42 U.S. states and territories and 44 foreign countries. More than half of students study abroad through the school's 35 programs in 25 countries on six continents, mainly in noncapital cities.
Dickinson is known for its sustainability initiatives and is continually recognized by such groups as the Princeton Review (Green Honor Roll), the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE; Gold rating) and Sierra magazine ("Cool School" and one of America's greenest colleges).
Dickinson's stunning campus - featuring beautiful landscaping and buildings made of limestone from Dickinson's own quarry - is located in the heart of the historic central Pennsylvania town of Carlisle, a key marker in Civil War activity. Founded in 1751, Carlisle is a cosmopolitan town of 20,000 people, nestled between mountains that have long been a destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Appalachian Trail and several mountain lakes are within easy reach of the campus, as is Hersheypark and historic Gettysburg.

The town is a transportation hub linked by highway, rail and air to prominent East Coast cities, with driving times that make these cities readily accessible: Harrisburg, 20 minutes; Gettysburg, 30 minutes; Baltimore, 90 minutes; Washington, D.C., two hours; Philadelphia, two hours; New York, three hours; Pittsburgh, four hours.
Dickinson takes pride in its campus wellness and professional development programs, offering an array of opportunities to faculty and staff through its Holistic Health Incentive program. In 2014, the American Heart Association (AHA) recognized Dickinson as a gold-level Fit-Friendly Worksite, a national award that acknowledges the college's commitment to a vibrant wellness culture on campus.
Dickinson offers a competitive benefits package and retirement plan, plus tuition remission and tuition assistance incentives.
The college is committed to building a representative and diverse faculty, administrative staff and student body. We encourage applications from all qualified persons.
