Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE

To support the Controller's Office by carrying out all cashier-related functions, under the general direction of the Coordinator. Maintain ongoing contacts as a regular part of daily activities involving work of a non-controversial nature.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Reconcile student and departmental daily postings to general ledger. Perform daily verification that all deposits and disbursements were properly recorded. Verify account classification on all deposits. Perform daily recording and balancing of student tuition payments. (30%)

2. Perform the open and close processes for the cashier drawer including a daily reconciliation and balancing. Perform daily reconciliation of the safe. (30%)

3. Distribute student reimbursement, salary advance, and petty cash checks. Perform daily cashing, recording and verifying of petty cash vouchers and petty cash checks. (30%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. (5%)

2. Assist the coordinator, and the Controller’s office with projects/ other duties as assigned. (2%)

3. Inventory supplies for Cashier's office. Safeguard all assets maintained in the Cashier's office. (1%)

4. Serve as a backup for cash management. (1%)

CONTACTS

Department: Reports and communicates activities in the Cashier's Office with the Coordinator on a daily basis. Contacts various people and departments in the Controller's Office to ensure correctness of all account transactions on a daily basis

University: Communicate with various departments within the university on a daily basis to ensure correctness of all account transactions. Provide daily customer service to faculty and staff.

External: Frequent customer service contact with the public to exchange information.

Staff/Students: Provide daily customer service to university students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct supervision of staff employees

REQUIREMENTS

Experience: 2 to 3 years of previous cashier/teller experience

Education: High school education

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Excellent customer-service orientation.

2. Must be able to interact with a wide range of individuals. Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.

3. Good oral and written communication skills.

4. Accurate and detailed-oriented.

5. High integrity and professionalism.

6. Must be self motivated and have the ability to work as part of a team.

7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel a must; competence with email systems, internet and enterprise software is a plus.

8. Ten key by touch.

9. Ability to multi-task.

10. Ability to meet consistent attendance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Conditions in the Cashier’s Office are much like a bank. The office must be open to the public within the posted hours and accuracy is essential due to the handling of cash.
