Job Details
To assist all Northern Virginia Community College students who have applied for financial aid, or who wish to, by providing information that will guide each student through the aid process—over the phone, by email, or by in-person consultations. To coordinate with appropriate policies and regulations. To provide assistance for students in the on-line processes that support the financial aid process and to monitor a computer lab where that assistance is provided. This position is expected to travel to the six (6) NOVA campuses, as requested.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes students by providing excellent customer service. Handles customer questions and inquiries with the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism to resolve customer issues. Acts as the liaison between students and Financial Aid Representatives and directs students to the proper individual or department as necessary. Analyzes financial aid information provided by students on FAFSA to determine completeness and correctness, identify discrepancies related to information provided on documents vs. information provided on FAFSA, and reviews submitted documentation for accuracy to be scanned to the CFAO for review. Assists students in identifying and completing requested items required to complete the application process. Assists students, whether in the financial aid office or in the open computer lab, in completing the online FAFSA application and all FAFSA related requirements; assists students in navigating NOVA Connect and NVCC email and in understanding College Financial Aid Support Center services. To assist the Campus Financial Aid Office on all six campuses, as requested.
Minimum QualificationsAssociate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience and/or training. Experience working in an office environment.
Preferred QualificationsProgress toward a bachelor’s degree in business administration, human services, counseling, social science or related field. Experience working in financial aid. Experience working in a higher education environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong customer service skills and abilities to include familiarity with computer applications related to financial aid as well as student information systems. Knowledge of office procedures, various office equipment, and excellent communication and organization skills. Ability to work well with students, staff and other offices for successful resolution to difficult problems. Ability to work independently in identifying and addressing the student’s financial aid needs as they relate to the application process. Knowledge and ability to follow rules, regulations and understand standards established by the college, state and federal financial aid programs. Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple task and demands. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
