Under the supervision of the Assistant Registrar for Credit Transfer, the primary role of the Transfer Specialist is to help evaluate student high school transcripts, test scores, and other documents to determine student placement; and assist with the evaluation of traditional and non-traditional transfer credit during peak times. The Transfer Specialist will also enter that information into the various Northern Virginia Community College databases.Duties and Responsibilities
•Use NOVA and VCCS Multiple Measures guidelines to accurately evaluate information enclosed on high school transcripts, ACT score sheets, SAT score sheets, and other documents.
•Obtain course descriptions, catalogs, and institutional information via web research, online transfer databases, and contacting other colleges and universities to make an accurate course match.
•Ensure that placement information, as well as official transfer credit is quickly, accurately, and completely recorded in the student information systems (PeopleSoft) to support degree audit and advising.
•Help manage electronic and written correspondence with specific regard to Multiple Measures, transcript evaluation and transfer credit activities.
•Assist in the maintenance of Multiple Measures related policy and procedural documentation.
•Assist with in-house audits student records and documents to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Substantial experience demonstrating data entry responsibilities. Experience evaluating transcripts and transfer credit, and/or experience providing advising to prospective college or college-level students.Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree. Experience working in higher education. Experience evaluating transcripts and transfer credit, and/or experience providing advising to prospective college or college-level students.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of policies and requirements governing advising and admissions in a large, multicultural community college setting. Proven ability to apply complex unit, departmental, and college policies and procedures. Ability to plan and self manage daily workload to meet production goals. Working knowledge of online student information systems such as PeopleSoft to update, analyze, and interpret student data. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff.
