Position Summary

This position serves as the Accountant I for externally funded research awards within the Food Security Group of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics; job duties include reviewing and applying various payment mechanisms (PSC’s, DV’s, NRA-PSC’s, Purchase Requisitions) for large international research grants; assigned financial management of in country research expenditures (IMPREST funds), verification all expenses are done in accordance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policies, procedures, and regulations; provides information on and interprets budget and expenses for research funds; provides quarterly financial reporting on all USAID awards; procurement for group expenses; other administrative duties as assigned.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial statement and report preparation, accounts payable, general ledger and research accounting and budgeting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with externally funded contracts and grants preferably USAID or other Federal funding, MSU policies and procedures; excellent written and oral communications skills; exceptional organizational skills; and experience with book keeping or accounting.
