Art & Art History: Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian Art – 000080A

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time, visiting assistant professor position in Asian Art beginning August 2019. This is a non-tenure track appointment, annually renewable for up to two years, contingent upon performance, budget, and continued need. The successful candidate must demonstrate promise of scholarly distinction, as well as excellence in teaching. The teaching load is five courses per year at the introductory and upper-level as well as some supervision of senior theses as part of the program’s capstone seminar. Experience with instructional technologies is required. PhD is expected prior to appointment.

The Department would welcome any area and period of specialization, with the stipulation that the successful candidate be willing to teach the department’s survey course on Asian Art, which fulfills one of the University’s general education requirements. We seek candidates with recent approaches to the study of art history including curatorial practices, transculturalisms and subalternity. Beyond the survey course, the successful candidate is expected to develop courses that may range from ancient to contemporary Asian art, according to the candidate’s expertise, and that focus on the relationship and connections of Asian art to other cultures as well as diaspora communities.
