Department Description:

The Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science maintains a state of the art, high fidelity nursing simulation and standardized patient laboratory. The Dickinson Nursing Simulation Center (DNSC) is designed to simulate clinical settings, providing graduate Master's Entry students, Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist students the opportunity to develop or enhance their clinical skills in a low stress safe environment. This is accomplished through the use of clinical case scenarios, faculty guidance, and trained actors who simulate standardized clinical scenarios which facilitate critical thinking, physical assessment, and procedure skills. The Dickinson Nursing Simulation Center is unique in the state of California by providing students with videotaped debriefs of their performance which serves to enhance a students learning and skill acquisition.

Detailed Description:

The Sr. Manager for Simulation and Innovative Learning will work administratively within the SON and the DNSC. The Sr. Manager will develop and coordinate HCI simulation events and provide software and technical support as appropriate for the SON’s academic technology and DNSC. The Sr. Manager will facilitate and enhance on ground, hybrid, and online learning by providing faculty training, instructional design consultations, and technical support to SON students, staff, and faculty. The Manager will also collaborate with faculty as needed to design and develop on ground, hybrid, and online course content, including interactive multimedia and mobile learning content to support the mission and strategic goals of the SON. In addition, the Sr. Manager will support classroom and simulation center technology; health care applications, and deployment and management of clinical documentation systems for the SON and DNSC. This position receives supervision from the Associate Dean and Dickinson Simulation Center Director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

On ground/Hybrid/Online Course Management and Development

  • Under the direction of the Director of Innovative Learning and HCI and DNSC Director develops materials, tools, standards, and best practices for graduate courses, and simulation center cases using learning management systems for on ground, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Participate in selection and management of simulation-based technology.
  • Coordinate with faculty to design or update on ground, hybrid and online course platforms each semester, and provide review to ensure on ground, hybrid and online course content aligns with program, degree, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
  • Monitor Black Board learning management system courses daily to identify and troubleshoot technical issues that arise.
  • Collaborate with Student Services to ensure that courses align with ADA access regulations.
  • Employ Universal Design for Learning and Quality Matters methodologies to course development.
  • Collaborate with development of course evaluation systems and quality metric generation to ensure program is aligned with individual program, SON, and USD outcomes; national accreditation, and licensing board requirements.
  • Facilitate the development of multimedia content for graduate courses, and coordinate with the ITS iTeam and media services staff as needed.
  • Collaborate with the USD iTeam to develop strategic in-class and laboratory technologies that assist graduate level faculty in the implementation of online and hybrid courses.
  • Create and administer policies and procedures for faculty and student use of academic technology, equipment, or software in the SON and DNSC.

Technical Support and Training

  • Coordinate with the ITS iTeam, Center for Education Excellence, Professional and Continuing Education department to assess instructional needs to optimize on ground, online and blended learning for the graduate programs.
  • Inform staff and faculty about updates on university administrative policy, requirements, and expectations related to technology and learning.
  • Provide instructional design consultation to faculty and provide recommendations optimizing course content for on ground, web-based and blended delivery.
  • Provide ongoing technical training and support to all staff, students, and faculty, and develop help resources and FAQs as needed for on ground, hybrid and online learning resources, telemedicine devices, and software
  • Participate in the selection and management of both classroom and simulation center technology.
  • Provide relevant technological orientation, training and support to faculty, staff and students during classes and hold drop-in office hours daily
  • Assist with simulation events by providing technical support for computer-based multimedia systems including laptops, desktops, video cameras, LCD monitors, projectors, electronic health records and other equipment.
  • Configure and maintain all telemedicine equipment and software within the DNSC.
  • Facilitate faculty support to integrate telemedicine devices and software into simulation-based curriculum, as requested

Electronic Health Record

  • Implement, manage and maintain EHR Go for all nursing and HCI programs
  • Collaborate with faculty to advance the application of the EHR Go functionality with content-relevant exercises to ensure highest value experience for students online and on-ground.

Other

  • Serve on USD campus committees involving technology or online/hybrid learning.
  • Work hours may include weekends and evenings.
  • Maintain documentation necessary to uphold standards associated with SSH accreditation and assist in the attainment of accreditation in the remaining modules (Systems integration & Research) as directed by the DNSC Director.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in educational/instructional technology support.
  • Experience with ADDIE design methodology, Quality Matters and Universal Design for Learning Principles.
  • Experience using multimedia development and instructional technology software including Blackboard, Blackboard Collaborate, Respondus, Captivate, MOOCs, WebEx, iOS and Android smart phones and tablets, MediaSite, Google Apps, 360 articulate, Adobe CC software, iMovie, FinalCut, podcasting
  • Intermediate level expertise with software applications including Articulate and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Demonstrated experience in multimedia production, software and equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with at least one major learning management system.
  • Demonstrated intermediate to advance knowledge of MS Office.
  • Experience in resolving complex problems in a dynamic, team-oriented work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills.
  • Must be responsive, service-oriented, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects at once, providing information to stakeholders as needed, and meeting multiple deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in instructional technology or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years instructional design/support
  • 3-5 years experience in multimedia production
  • Experience working in a higher education setting with faculty and students, especially in providing technical training and support related to online or blended coursework.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance considerations and copyright issues related to online learning.
  • Prior leadership experience leading teams and projects
  • Health care simulation experience
