General Summary of Position:

The Senior Associate Director of Alumni & Donor Relations will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement strategies, events and programs to engage our entire alumni population, including all graduate and undergraduate alumni, in the life of the University. S/he will collaborate with various constituencies (including students, administrators, faculty, vendors, etc.) to ensure that the needs of alumni are met. Responsibilities will include managing and working with alumni volunteer committees as well as developing, planning and executing alumni programs and events, around the region and across the world.

Responsibilities:

  1. Regional Program
  2. Oversee the Regional Alumni Network program including management of key territories, as well as implement new engagement initiatives and metrics-tracking strategies.
  3. Events- Organize regional events including, but not limited to events around specific school/college programs, Division I Athletics and our comprehensive campaign objectives.
  4. Oversee calendar of regional travel by university colleagues to help implement a Road Scholar program.
  5. Volunteer Management- Research and incorporate new and innovative ways to assist alumni volunteers in their efforts to help create an alumni community all around the world.
  6. Development Collaboration- Work with the Development team to assess proper and effective alumni engagement efforts that correlate with their regional zone activity.
  • Provide leadership support on the Alumni & Donor Relations team at various programs and events. Help implement office wide efficiency processes including, but not limited to:
  • Help to organize a proper coding and tracking system for alumni involvement and activity, along with implementing and executing stewardship efforts for those volunteers.
  • Budget management of division programming. Ensure that budgets are updated and reviewed periodically with Executive Director.
  • Attend other events when needed as a representative of Alumni Relations.
  • Support the needs of the Donor Relations team by identifying new venues, solidifying logistics, preparing event materials and working events to meet the alumni community.
  • Special Programming- Engage alumni through stewardship programming, including annual appreciation nights and alumni discounts.
  • Oversee the implementation of Homecoming by leading the campus-wide homecoming committee and working with various colleagues on affinity programming.
  • Manage alumni benefits program.
  • Assist the Executive Director and collaborate with other staff as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5-8 years’ experience in constituent engagement and/or volunteer management, preferably in a nonprofit or higher educational setting
  • Proven ability to manage and train volunteers as well as expertise in drafting and executing creative individual and region-wide volunteer strategies
  • Budget management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple and complex tasks and projects concurrently
  • Desire and ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Strong work ethic and integrity
  • Commitment to teamwork and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution
  • Experience in planning and executing successful events within a defined budgetary parameter
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Massachusetts Lowell
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in program development and evaluation
  • Working knowledge of social media and Microsoft Office software products
  • Weekend and evening work will be necessary
  • Additional Considerations:

    • Experience working in higher education, including events, sponsorship, alumni relations with volunteer management experience preferred

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • UMass Lowell alumnus/a preferred
