General Position Description

Instruct courses in human anatomy and physiology and general biology. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining office hours, participating in professional development, and working across departments to develop student communication, computation, and critical thinking skills. Instructional responsibilities may include non-traditional venues, such as: online courses, online/traditional classroom combinations and dual credit. Teaching schedule may include evening classes. This position reports to the Division Chair of Math & Sciences. Note: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Master's degree in a life science from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level.

Preferred Requirements

Experience: At least two (2) years of teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level.
Experience developing and teaching Internet classes. Experience teaching dual credit students.

Selection Criteria

Knowledge of: (1) discipline subject matter, (2) curriculum development, (3) current trends in teaching/learning theory as they apply to biology, (4) technology in support of classroom instruction. Skills to: (5) use technology in support of instruction, (6) develop and instruct courses in an online format. Ability to: (7) establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff in the science department, (8) communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, (9) participate in college committees, (10) work across departments to develop student communication, computation, and critical thinking skills, (11) promote and support related extra-curricular activities.

Working Conditions

Physical effort-restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.), some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Work environment-Minimal hazard/exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
