General Position Description

Teach courses in Theatre, Movement/Dance, (Broadway styles, Ballet, Modern, and Laban), Performance; other theatre-related courses as needed. Instructional responsibilities may include non-traditional venues, such as online courses, online/traditional classroom combinations and dual credit. Direct and/or choreograph two productions per year and assist with other productions as needed. Participate in student advising, recruiting, departmental and college activities, professional development, mentoring program, and overall support of the institution. Work collaboratively with theatre faculty as well as faculty in the Visual and Performing Arts Division. This position reports to the Division Chair of Visual & Performing Arts.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Visual & Performing Arts Division includes Theatre, Music, Art, and Music Industry Careers. Production facilities include proscenium arch, 2900 square-foot stage with orchestra pit in the Ball Performing Arts Center (350); black box theatre in the Music and Theatre Arts building (110); and the open-air Bosque River Stage (525) on the river; 2,000+ square foot dance studio with wooden floating floor, fully mirrored walls, barre, and sound system; classrooms, offices. The Theatre Department has five full-time faculty members. McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants who are invited to interview for this position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree with 18 graduate hours in dance and/or theatre from an accredited college or university;
Experience: Evidence of experience in directing and choreography on the professional and/or academic level. Teaching experience at the college/university and/or public-school level.
* Electronic Portfolio: This should include links to video recordings of performances.

Preferred Requirements

Education: MA or MFA degree in Theatre and/or Dance from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of: (1) Performance theory and practice, Theatrical Movement disciplines, and foundational Dance technique (2) Directing and choreographic principles (3) current trends in theatre and performance as well as student learning theory (4) dramatic literature; Ability to: (5) work collaboratively; (6) recruit, advise and retain students; (7) work within/across departmental lines; (8) communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.

Working Conditions

Physical Effort: EXERTIVE: Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions; sustained activities require strength (e.g. using tools) Frequent moderate lifting (30-60 lbs.). Work Environment: Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard: Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity are limited.
